The sunflower in the story shows a Monarch butterfly and his friend Joey. In reality the Monarch populations are down to about five percent compared to a few decades ago. People in general appear to understand the importance of pollinators, which is good news for the Monarch butterfly. There are factors that contribute to there decline such as pesticides along with climate change .What can we do to help the Monarch .The public is starting to realize that certain plants in your garden such as milkweed will help. This is the Monarchs food of choice, and acts as a host for the Monarchs eggs.So as you look at the sunflower that has no Monarch butterfly think of Joey and what he saw in the meadow for the first time.
