The Doonesbury cartoon character Joanie teaches the girls in her day care center some of the concepts of feminism. This description may be from another edition of this product.
A real gem from the early days of Doonesbury. This early Doonesbury book was first published in 1974 and reprinted later in 1979. Here we see Joanie Caucus running a day care center. She is already pushing her feminist agenda with the little girls under her care.In a few short days she has little Mary believing that her father is a chauvinist pig. It's very interesting looking at the primitive artwork in these early Trudeau cartoons and comparing it to the sophisticated work we see in his strips today. One of the things that Trudeau used to do in the past was to play little "Spot-the-Differences" games. He would make little changes in the background of continuing panels .Sugar bowls missing, cups turning around, numbers of glasses changing, wall hangings changing, etc. There are several examples in this book.Check out the teacups on the shelf on pages 40 and 41 or the picture of the bird on the book cover on pages 50 and 51.This was kind of fun ,and for one I miss them. And did you know, that Doonesbury was the first comic strip to win the Pulitzer Prize. It's been a long run and continues to be enjoyed by its many fans.
