STRONG STORY AND CHARACTERS

My second book by R.J. Kaiser (the first being "Payback") and I continue to be impressed by this guy's writing. He not only gets into the minds of the male characters but has a good understanding of his female characters. This is totally different from "Payback" which I greatly appreciate. No cookie cutter characters - male or female. Good detective/mystery and a good friendship/love story. I will definitely buy more of his books. A keeper just like "Payback".

Good police procedural

After a night of wallowing in his sorrows for not having someone to spend Valentines Day with, Frank Keegan wakes to find himself in his bed, with no pants on and blood all over himself. He doesn't remember how he got there or what happened. Brushing it off, Frank begins his day.New Chief of Police Abby Hooper is just learning the ropes of her new job when a murder scene is found. A young girl, who appears to be a child prostitute, is found dead right outside Frank Keegan's house. Although the two of them had ran against eachother for the job as Chief of Police, Abby and Frank hold no bad feelings toward eachother. The only problem is that Frank is now Abby's number one suspect. Since Frank cannot remember what had happened the night before, and he knows he could never hurt a child, he is confident of his innocence. When the former Chief of Police is found after he committed suicide and a tape in the VCR showing him in a compromising position, the case becomes even trickier. Who is their Jane Doe? Is Frank innocent of murder, or he is cold blooded killer of a little girl? Frank and Abby are unable to deny their attraction to eachother, but the one problem is Frank's alibi for the night of the murder. It was Abby's own estranged mother.Once again R.J. Kaiser has written a great police procedural. While not a fast paced as Payback, Jane Doe hold it's own and keeps the reader rivited and wanting more. I highly recommend this great police procedural

A sheep in wolves clothing

Although one expects a mystery, and this book does deliver intrigue in spades, what the reader gets is much more. The storyline encompasses the entire spectrum of book catagories. It is a romance novel hidden inside a mystery for those who wish it to be, and a mystery novel with a little romance on the side for those more interested in that aspect. No one can go wrong with this book; Kaiser delivers a novel of characters acting and reacting to each other and his excellent, everchanging storyline.

A police procedural with a HEART

I am a picky reader when it comes to police procedurals. This one gets thumbs up, WAY up, because the personalities of Abby and Frank shine through, scene after riveting scene. This kept me up late, worried me in spots, and left me VERY contented in the end. The perfect getaway of a read.

A great romantoc police procedural

The morning after, former Stockton police detective Frank Keegan suffers from a horrendous hangover, a nasty cut on his face, and no idea what he did the previous evening. His woes just begin when two fishermen discover the corpse of a naked teenager lying by the dock outside Frank's home. The Riverton police force has little experience with homicides as the last murder occurred eighteen years ago. Abby Hooper, police chief for only a month, has one major suspect Frank, swears he has an alibi, who is none other than her estranged mother ,who he had sex with on that fatal night. Because of his growing attraction to Abby and his deep respect for her mother, Frank insists his proof remain anonymous. Abby continues to investigate the man she loves, praying that he did not commit the crime.JANE DOE is an entertaining romantic police procedural that will receive much reader acclaim. The story line is crisp and filled with action, tension, and suspicion. Abby is a wonderful heroine, whose actions befit her job similar to that of the chief in "Fargo. Frank,s outlook on a pending murder charge seems off kilter, but overall the audience will relish his demeanor and philosophy. R.J. Kaiser successfully brings romance into the police procedural sub-genre so those fans of the latter will recognize the author,s name.Harriet Klausner
