Why the bad rap?

Personally, I really love this book and cannot wait for the other volumes in the series to be released. If you want a deep story line read Shakespeare. For those of us who love action and gorgeously drawn characters this is it! I have read a lot of manga and have read a fair amount of manhwa (Korean version of manga). Jack Frost is different and I simply love its style. The characters and the story line is very different from the other things out there. Warning, it is very dark, violent, and bloody. Horror at it's finest! There are also some panty shots here and there. But, I'm a girl and it doesn't bother me. It's also funny, exciting, and filled with action and conflict. This story is published by Yen Press and it's currently being serialized in the US in the magazine Yen Plus. If your impatient for the next volumes check out the magazine. It's available at my local Barnes & Noble and at Borders. This magazine also has Pandora Hearts and Soul Eater. Both of them are great as well. Yes, I do seem to like dark stories... Jack Frost, one of the protagonists, is a total dark and scary psycho. He's also gorgeous with his spiky black hair and unbeatable fighting skills. Noh-A, the other protagonist, frequently looses her head (literally) but she can't die. Jack acts as her protector of sorts (even though sometimes he chops her head off too...). This makes for some funny situations. This is getting long so I'll sum it up: a very different story line filled with chaos, action, and battles. You can look forward to mysteries, skeletons, villains, pretty ladies, hot guys, and general spooki-ness. There is also a vampire pirate who can control zombies. Towards the end of volume 1 we get the hint of bigger things to come. Possibly a war, but certainly more great fighting scenes. I love Jack Frost and highly recommend it to others!! ^_^

Buzzworthy manwha

I ended up stumbling upon this title at my local Borders Express. The cover is what lured me into the book, and I'm more then flattered to call it a good read. The book offers nothing much new in terms of horror, adventure, or any mystery. It has a story, but it gets overshadowed by the wonderfully illustrated scenes of bloody carnage and plenty of busty femmes filling a good portion of the pages. I do love a lot of the dark humor presented as much as that smirky dark tone (not like Death Note dark) but the constant monster attacks and barren campus environments are aided with a nicely layered creepy atmosphere. It feels limited, but it does have good potential if the story progresses. Otherwise, it's a good read in my opinion. Sadly, compared to manga, manwhas get published only every so often like a trilogy of novels.
