Different Type of Chick Lit....

This was my first Allison Rushby book, and by the end of the book I was desperatly wanting to read more. This book starts out in Australia and then proceeds all over Europe. It is a great chick lit read that deals with something unconventional and brings a unique travel backdrop to the story!

I'm reading this one again!

The book had me at hello. It was glued to my hands! Being an Aussie chick I loved relating to the characters and the Australian backdrop of the novel. I'm reading this one again.Allison Rushby...power to ya!

Loved it

I just loved this book. It pulled me in and I couldn't put it down. The whole thing about Germans oktoberfest was too funny. The story left me feeling really good. :)

Not the best book I've ever read, BUT...

For any girl who "thought" she had an unrequited first love, the story of Charlie & Jas will keep you rooting for them page after page. And wondering about what might have happened if fate had intervened and put you on an "Oktoberfest" tour with your first love...They start out as roommates, and while Jas is working his way through every blonde babe at the university, Charlie is falling in love with him. They have an amazing friendship, yet when things start to heat up romantically, Jas all of a sudden backs off, telling Charlie, "It's not you, it's me..."Two years later, after Charlie's mother has died, and Jas has become a famous rock star, "Zamiel", they find themselves sitting next to each other on a plane to London. Their friendship is renewed, and Charlie invites Jas to join her on an Oktoberfest tour in Germany. The character development doesn't live up to its potential, there are some unanswered questions (like why Zamiel's fans want to kill him), and there are there are a few spots in the story line where it starts to drag a bit and you wish they'd just get on with it already. But the dialog between Charlie & Jas is great, and for the most part it's a fun and exciting read. It's not exactly a book that will make you "think", or change your life...but if you were after that you'd be checking out Oprah's Book club, not reading this review, right? All in all it's a satisfying read that will keep you smiling throughout! I will definitely look out for Allison Rusby's next book in this genre.

gender bending Chick lit romance

Three years ago, waitress slash sculptor Charlie Notting advertised for a roommate and rock musician Jasper "Jas" Ash responded and moved in. Over the next few months as Jas goes through a different woman every week, Charlie falls in love with him. The day before Jas is to leave her to fulfill a music contract; they succumb and begin to make love. However, Jas stops insisting it has nothing to do with Charlie. She is hurt and tells him she never wants to see him again.Charlie's friends and family gift her with a trip to London feeling she deserves it. On the plane, she encounters Jas who is a rising superstar. They agree to tour Europe together though Charlie fears she will be hurt. However, this Jas will do whatever it takes to prove to Charlie that it was not her and that he loves her as he did three years ago. First he must re-earn her trust.Readers will be very surprised why Jas failed to make love to Charlie, but though difficult to accept, the reason is reasonable in this gender bending contemporary romance. The fun story line uses flashbacks to show the first ill-fated relationship between the lead couple, which can prove a bit confusing, but worth the trip back to compare how far the twosome have come in three years. Chick lit readers will appreciate Charlie and her feeling of inadequacy while at first hissing at Jas, but as the audience becomes acquainted with him will like him and when they learn the truth cherish him. Allison Rushby writes a pleasant tale of love.Harriet Klausner
