In 1997... I was 16 years old, but you'll learn plenty about that later...I had no intentions of publishing a memoir about myself because well, I'm extremely boring: 90's kid from Dubuque, Iowa, college student, teacher, husband, father of two- sound like anyone you know? About a hundred people you say? Well, then you can see my rationale. But while I was writing about my life, and in general growing up Mid-Western, something funny began to surface: I started to realize that the great story characters I had been searching for had been with me for as long as I could remember, locked in my memories from the 90's. I had grown up with people who were more interesting than a lot of fictional characters that are read all over the world everyday. People that deserved to be read about... Real people.Out of my life story came the stories of a handful of other people: a Star Wars loving, romantic-comedy obsessed seventeen-year-old; a former punk returning home for her ten year high school reunion; a passionate Kurt Cobain fan and the boy who loves her; a group of teens looking for fun on a Friday night; a balding thirty-something who can't come to grips with the loss of the love of his life; a love-struck teen who stands up against racism; two kids with an intense desire to run away together; and, a blue collared American who realizes that just maybe his best days are yet to come.I've always hated the expression: "You can't go home again". Do you want to know why? Because I've come to realize, that no matter the circumstances, you can always go back home. So, if you're one of those people, that truly believe that you can't ever go back... then I hope this collection brings a small smile to your face, a secretive tear to your eye, and the thought that maybe it's okay to call up someone you haven't spoken with in a while for no other reason than to just say "Hey".
