Laughed my head off

I don't know if it's because my sister, the day before I started this book, had the exact same experience of dining with our parents or what, but when I woke her at 2 am to read an excerpt, rather than hang up, she said "keep going." This book is hilarious but also very poignant. It hit home, especially the mother-daughter relationship. The sarcasm throughout was on the mark. I also found myself tearing up a bit in a few spots. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it.

Hilarious.

I love Merrill Markoe and I loved this book. It's a fast funny read. And the mother character will really hit home for anyone with controlling parents.

You Think You Have The Parents From Hell?

Dave Barry, David Sedaris, and Cynthia Heimel all make me chuckle, but Merrill Markoe makes me scream with laughter until tears run down my cheeks. Yes, her humor is dark, mordant, and bitter but nobody uses sarcasm better. Perhaps we are just on the same wave length. I have loved all her collections, but this, her first novel, may be the funniest thing she has written so far.

The Mind of the Unmarried Woman

Hard to believe such a "chick" book could have such guy appeal. I found this book on my wife's nightstand and had to pick it up, just cuz of the title. I had to laugh because I too know all these guys that the narrator runs into year after year - they're my buddies!! But to hear it from the other side was hilarious - nothing more talented than a writer who can make you laugh at yourself. The narrator's encounters give further proof to the testament that men are from mars and women are from another...universe!!! A fun, witty quick bedtime read.

This is the funniest book I've read in a long time. I went in not expecting much, and I ended up laughing so hard, I had tears in my eyes. For anyone who has ever experienced embarrasment at the hands of your parents-you'll appreciate this. For anyone who needs a good laugh, this book is a great choice.
