The Nightlocke has... changed.
Gone are his violent and wicked ways. The Nightlocke has pulled away from the darkness to become Arthur once more, and it's all thanks to his beautiful bride, Kymra. Years have passed, and the two have lived in harmony with the Kingdom of Odemark. Their son, Khalan, is growing up fast, and the time has come to send him and Princess Zoey to the Academy in Oceanus to further their education before taking the throne.
But along the way raiders ambush the carriages, and the Nightlocke must embrace the dark again. Something strange is happening in the lands and fear quickly begins to spread. Royal children are being snatched from their beds, and a powerful Elemental looks to blame. No one knows why the kids are being targeted, but the Nightlocke and King Liam decide to send the kids to the Academy anyway as it is secluded on a small island and the best place to protect the kids.
Despite dreading having to attend the Academy, Khalan's only mission now is to protect his lifelong friend Zoey, the one who holds the key to his heart. Being the outcast has its perks as Khalan can blend in the shadows and keep her safe from the jerks at the school. As time slowly passes, he begins to make friends with the other outcasts and finally seems to find a place where he belongs. But things take a harsh turn when the Academy is suddenly attacked by dragons.
Stepping into his father's shoes, Khalan and his friends decide to track the monstrous beasts across the sea to the one island no one can find.
