Focusing on the digital signalling system in the ISDN phone system, this work describes how SS7 (signalling system 7) is integrated into ISDN for a high quality of service. It covers operation,... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book is very book for readers who are new to ISDN and SS7 or interested in knowing about singaling networks. Examples are given with diagrams for easy understanding and that is what makes this book interesting while reading. There are some misprints which make reading difficult sometime. However, they are simple and can be quickly corrected by the reader themselves (with little focus).Best thing about this book is that it is for average audiance who do not have EE backgounrd and would like to have good understanding of the subject matter.I could have given it 5 stars as intro book to ISDN and SS7 but since editing is poor, it's only worth 4 stars
For the beginner

Uyless Black has great skill in technical writing. This book is not for those who need to know SS7 to a low level, or need to know the protocol inside it. But as a book for the beginner or someone who does not need to know SS7 inside out, then this book is easy to understand, and has appropriate coverage of both ISDN and SS7. So in short not a large book, nor is it in depth, but what is there is well written.
Very good for beginners

The Best Techy Intro to ISDN & SS7

This is the best introductory technical book on ISDN and SS7 I've seen. I first came across it when I was writing software that handled ISDN connections, and found the ISDN spec (aka Q.931) pretty impenetrable. This book gave me enough background to deal with it. Recently I've been working on SS7 software, and once again found Black's book provides a solid grounding, getting you ready to read the specs for the gorey details. It's small enough to read the whole thing, and yet it goes into enough detail to really explain what's up.

I am a sales engineer and came across this book while doing an installation of a voice and data integration network in Moscow. It gives a good description of ISDN and SS7 from a Sales Engineer perspective. It explains what ISDN is and how it interacts with SS7. For somebody implementing a voice and data network where SS7 is a requirement, this a good book.
