Oxford educated A.Paget Wilkes (1871-1934)became a missionary to Japan with the Church Missionary Society led by Marclay Buxton in 1897. Subsequetly he founded the Japan Evangelistic band which was devoted to a more aggressive evangelism and personal holiness. He served his whole life in Japan but became well knows through his books.
