Book Overview

For fourteen years, Steve and Meredith Whitman have sustained a marriage of passion and friendship, despite the demands of two all-consuming careers. Meredith is a top investment banker, Steve a gifted physician - the only thing missing in their life is children. Steve longs for them. But Meredith keeps putting off motherhood, and now she has been offered an extraordinary job opportunity in San Francisco, three thousand miles away. Steve urges her to accept, saying that he's more than happy to uproot himself and will join her as soon as he can find a new job himself. Perhaps in California, he hopes, they can begin a family at last.

Neither Steve nor Meredith had reckoned on a prolonged separation, but Steve's job keeps him in New York for months longer than planned. Weekends together fall prey to their hectic schedules. Alone in San Francisco, Meredith is spending long hours at the office with her boss, charismatic entrepreneur Callan Dow. Steve is working late shifts at the hospital, grabbing an occasional dinner with a new female colleague. Almost unnoticed, Steve and Meredith have begun living separate lives, and irresistible forces start to tear their lives and hearts apart.

Irresistible Forces

One of Danielle Steel's more romantic stories that I just could not put down until I was finished... Steve, an Emergency Room physician and Merrie, a successful business woman, were married and lived a comfortable and convenient life together in New York city. As soon as Merrie starting traveling with Callan Dow and his high tech company based out of California, friction started in their marriage. Because of her incredible talent, Merrie was soon offered a full-time position by Cal as the company's CFO. After consulting Steve she accepted the position and the two started a long distance marriage. Through the ups and downs of their new circumstances, Merrie and Steve soon realize that their marriage was not as strong as they had previously thought. After much angst, a decision is made and several lives are affected. There was a greater force guiding them toward happiness.

WHAT'S GONNA BE, GONNA BE

DANIELLE STEEL nobody does it the way you do--but oh how they try. You did not get your 40+ best seller without due diligence. I want to thank you for creating the heroines that I love to LOVE. NOW, we all know that Steve should have taken his behinds on out to California with Meredith when he first insisted that she take the job--to make all that big money that she willingly shared with him--when he was making only pennies. He knew his wife was faithful but she was also human. He delilberately pretended that he could not do what any other devoted spouse would have done, and that was to accept employment in his field with the first hospital that offered him a position after his big job offer failed-- so he could be with his wife. But no, he claimed he could only accept employment that would have resulted in a promotion for him. Well, he got just what he deserved. Meredith finally gave in to her emotions and so did he--results, divorce. That will teach men that they cannot have one set of rules for themselves and another for the women in their lives.DANIELLE, like all your love stories, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Cal was just too much of what Meredith needed and vice-versa, they were destined to fall in love and live happily ever after. DANIELLE STEEL, keep on spiting out your books as your stories take us where we cannot go ourselves--but get there nonethelelss, vicariously, thanks to you

Realistic yet sentimental

Danielle Steel does a GREAT job in Irresistible Forces in telling a story of todays hectic, hussle and bussle world and how sometimes love should conqure all... even if it means questioning our views about right and wrong... good guys and bad guys... and marriage. This book got me to think... or re-evaluate... marriage and following your heart. Sometimes when you lose... you win. I simply loved this book. The beginning may seem a little long with the character development, but how else are you supposed to fall in love with the characters, and the book coming to fruition is well worth the read. I LOVED IT!!!

Irresistable Forces do not have to be

I purposely curtail my Danielle Steel reading because I do not always like the directions that the stories take. However, she is such a great writer that I'm hooked from the beginning. This story is no different. You are so involved with the husband and wife and what they go through to be together and how supportive they are of each other that when the relationship starts to come apart after so long, it does not make any sense. The scenario did not seem to fit the relationship they had going for so long. So I was extremely dissapointed with the ending and dissappointed in their infadelity. The book stayed with me for weeks.
