It is a wonder that fifty-five years of ironic twists would bring Paul Ruffin and Doreen Provost together. They shared the same wedding day in 1955 to different spouses and their first-born child arrived on the same day in 1958.They were unaware that they lived three streets away from each other in the small town of Plainboro. Both of them also suffered the pain of losing the one they were married to and loved in the year 2000.
It takes a devastating tragedy to Paul's adult daughter, Lindsey and Doreen's oldest son, Ben to bring this couple together. Sharing the reality that their children are doomed; they need each other to lean on. When Paul's outcome is the worst, he wonders if it will drive Doreen away. Doreen grapples with her feelings too. It takes a good friend to make this couple realize when they should do.
