good story

This is really a pretty good story about two people whose lives have been turned upside-down and inside-out. He's an undercover DEA agent who only finds out that his tryst with a drug supplier's sister resulted in pregnancy when he's presented with a baby whose mother's dying wish was that he take care of the child. She's a burned-out bank loan officer with out-of-control diabetes exacerbated by the stress of her job. They both end up living at the same friends' home. It was a fairly realistic portrayal of two people at the end of their ropes, struggling to make some sense of their lives, unable to trust or let someone else in. I got a bit impatient with them toward the end of the book, and they did seem to stay at the friends' house way too long, but other than that, it was a good story.

Delicate

A reviewer somewhere once wrote that no-one knows how to create emotionally damaged, compelling characters like Rachel Lee. The reviewer was right, and this book is no exception, but the situations that cause this damage are where this book stands apart.Angela, our heroine, has diabetes and it is in control of her life. There is no way around it and that knowledge has made her a vulnerable, walled-in woman. She is not given to trusting people and believes she has no right ask someone to share her life. Rafe, our hero, is in the middle of a life crisis. He has a brand-new baby and a lifestyle that does not support families. The two wind up together in Conard County and their acquaintanceship grows into understanding, followed by friendship, trust and love. This is a delicately rendered story, a lot of emotions are juggled between the couple and they have a lot to learn about themselves before they're ready to trust themselves to each other. The dance is fascinating to follow.Involuntary Daddy is a departure from the usual romance fare, but not so much that the reader is left unsatisfied. I recommend this book to those that are looking for something a little different but don't want to sacrifice quality for a new plot.

Another excellent "Conard County" tale from Rachel Lee!

Angela and Rafe - and "Peanut" - Rafe's "unexpected" son - are three welcome additions to the interwoven characters and story lines that comprise Rachel Lee's 'Conard County' series for Silhouette Intimate Moments. Not surprsisingly, Rafe is in law enforcement - or at least, he was - until his undercover work for the DEA yielded the extremely unexpected child he didn't know existed. He goes to Conard County to find the half brother he's never met, hoping to persuade him to take on the burden of "Peanut." But when Rafe arrives at his destination, he meets Angela, also a refugee from her past life - and a person who impresses him with the way she copes with the trials and inconveniences of insulin-dependent diabetes. Both Rafe and Angela had expected to live out their lives alone, neither having found love in the past. But then - neither had been exposed to the magic of Conard County - or each other. Lee keeps readers guessing, as Angela and Rafe try to overcome past regrets, and as Rafe fights to keep custody of his son. This is is a terrifc read - and definitely a keeper.
