Keeping The Plates Spinning

If this is a first novel, then I have to say it is superb.Firstly, Intense Blue has some wonderfully rounded characters. As well as Nan, her friend Megan, the enigmatic Simone, and no less than three leading men, there are all of the students on Nan's course. And yet they are all well written characters, each with their own stories and motivations. Hence my reference to plate spinning!Secondly, there is an extremely gripping plot, with an engaging central mystery. Why does the reclusive Simone have a photograph of Nan when she was four years old? As with all good mysteries, the full details are not disclosed until nearly the end of the book. And its not the simple answer that I thought it was!The incidentals of Intense Blue are also well presented. It is detailed (I actually felt I had been on an Art course by the end of it) and witty ("Oh, Sappho, your mouth really is sheer poetry").And there is of course a constant undercurrent of sex throughout. Nan, just turned 40, thinks that her sex life is over, but Intense Blue is a celebration of the sexual possibilities open to the slightly less nubile.I hope that Lynn Wood writes us some more very soon.

Accomplishing the difficult

As a fellow writer i think writing about sex is one of thehardest things to do succesfully without it sounding either cliched orhackneyed.Writing about sex, in a way both men and women enjoy, is a small miracle. Lyn Wood manages to do both. I loaned 'Intense Blue' to a female friend and she was as pleased reading it as me. Not only that, but Wood writes a strong plot and is not afraid to make the book interesting by adding items one might not know. Such, in 'Intense Blue' describing what a 'caraspace' is (relating to a bush cricket). In fact this book has the sort of story and literacy that could give erotic writing a good name. 'Intense Blue' is a thoroughly enjoyable read and I am not ashamed to tell my friends about it.

Very intense, Very blue

It's that old, old story of girl meets boy in romantic surroundings, girl becomes involved in the strange and mysterious goings-on around her, girl has a wide range of exotic sexual encounters and, finally, girl and boy live happily ever after. Yet, as old as the concept might be, "Intense Blue" has a delightfully fresh feel about it. It hits the ground running on page one and zips along with easy grace to a totally satisfying climax on the final page. It's fast, it's funny, and it's sexy, read it!

Intense Review for Intense Blue

Erotic fiction for women by women is not exactly my sort of thing. But I happened to be laying around the house one day and picked up my lover's copy of `Intense Blue', which she had apparently just finished. I thumbed through it at first, perhaps a little curious, and then found myself actually reading it. I thought the book would be funny for all the wrong reasons, and full of cheesy sex. But I soon changed my tune. The plot zings along, full of sly humour. The characters are gripping and believable - I was soon rooting for the good guys and mentally hissing and booing at the bad guys. As for the sex scenes - well, they were quite an eye opener and I'm still carrying out research into them with my lover. You will understand when you have finished with it.
