Book Overview

Maddie James is a terrorism expert working in a crumbling intelligence agency. She is certain another big attack is imminent, but in a post-9/11 election year, the Administration is eager to claim victory in the Global War on Terror, and nobody wants to hear her warnings.

Reluctantly, Maddie is given a team of five analysts to look at the impending threat. This "canary crew" labors through bureaucratic obstacles, political headwinds, and personal problems to try to stop an attack from terrorists already imbedded deep within the country. They come heartbreakingly close to stopping the attack, but fail to predict a twist in the terrorists' plot. In the wake of the tragedy, the Administration tries to pin the blame on Iran. Maddie and her crew scramble to counter this narrative before the country is dragged into another war.

With dark humor and a razor-sharp tone, Hasler relates their fight to set the record straight in the face of office politics, government cover-up, and blackmail. A keenly-crafted debut that could only be written by an ex-CIA officer, Intelligence will please fans of Wag the Dog and Catch-22.
