The story "Infinite Lives" follows Mark, a man who is struggling to come to terms with the loss of his wife and children in a car accident. He becomes obsessed with understanding the concept of alternate universes and eventually stumbles upon a book written by a physicist, Dr. Elizabeth Smith, that claims to have discovered a way to access alternate universes. Mark meets with Dr. Smith and she explains her research and shows him a device, the "Universe Jump," that can transport a person to a different reality. Mark is the first test subject and is transported to an alternate universe where his family is still alive. He eventually has to return to his own reality, but becomes obsessed with the idea of infinite lives and continues to work with Dr. Smith to understand it better. They soon discover that there is a powerful entity known as "The Guardians" that controls the alternate universes and sees Mark and Elizabeth as a threat to their power. They go on the run as the Guardians try to stop them from sharing their discovery with the world.
