Guide to Indian Quillworking

This comprehensive manual is dedicated to preserving and teaching the traditional art of quillwork, once widely practiced by Great Lakes and Plains Indigenous tribes. The book offers detailed, step-by-step instructions accompanied by how-to sketches, guiding readers through the entire process--from plucking and preparing porcupine quills to mastering various quillworking techniques and finishing methods.

Hensler's own exquisite quillwork is showcased throughout, illustrating the diverse modern applications of this delicate art form. This guide serves as both an educational resource and an inspiration for those interested in learning and continuing the rich tradition of Indigenous quillworking. Color photographs from the Denver Museum of Art collection depict the fragility and richness of many antique items. Beautiful examples of the author's own quillwork display the many modern applications of the art.

Great for the beginner and expert alike!

This is an excellent guide with clear instructions for the beginner quillworker, plus lots of photos to inspire the expert. While there's no beadwork in this book, the patterns depicted are directly applicable - I've found it an excellent resource for beading design ideas!
