An unexpected gem of a book

When I was a teenager, I sat under Jack Bennett's preaching. At that time, I thought that no one had the power to make the Biblical text come alive - both on its own terms, and in terms of making an impact in daily life. Yet, Jack never yelled, pounded, or tried to impress. His delivery was matter-of-fact, but his insight was astounding. I often wondered if my recollections had been shaded by youth and being a bit over-awed by my pastor. However, reading Jack's sermons now, after 30 years, including my becoming a pastor, and a Ph.D. in theology, they are, if anything, more powerful now. I would say it was just me, but my wife, who is a hard sell on books of sermons, was as captivated by this by as me. OK - I wrote one of the blurbs on the back, doesn't matter. I don't get a thing out of the sales of the book. You will get something out of it, however: you will be uplifted, challenged, touched and educated. Listen in on one of best preachers of the generation who never felt the need to blow his own horn.
