Ryder and his band of smugglers are doing good business off the South-West coast of England in the year 1665. They have established contact with Captain Morgan and his crew of pirates who provide them with a good source of cheap contraband. Meanwhile, a young woman Bella decides to move to her late grandmother's house on Devil's Island in a cove near to where the smugglers operate. Her ancestor was executed by hanging for being a witch and Bella through her mother has also learnt the craft. A chance meeting with Ryder who finds himself entranced by her beauty leads to a budding romance but little do both of them know that the Black Death or Great Plague is just around the corner...
