In Her Shoes: Breast Cancer and Intimacy

Women should be able to talk as freely about breast cancer and mastectomies as we do about other health and social issues. Too often, men and their fetishes are an obstacle to that conversation. When asked, women friends were very open about the physical and emotional consequences of their cancer and mastectomies. Listening to them, and researching scores of written statements, the subject became ever deeper and more hurtful. In spite of the serious limits of my gender, In Her Shoes is written for my women friends, mastectomies or not, and for the silences they have kept. I hope you will find it helpful.
