Ironically, Vivienne must send her back to Fort Richards to assist the Tuatha in preventing Lord Bres, an evil Fomoire, and his demons from taking the Engine. After their defeat by the Fomoire, Maggie and her friends must destroy the Engine before Bres can seize it. With their connection to the Otherworlds severed, Maggie leads her friends to England to find and assemble components for a replacement Engine. Later, in Dublin, Lord Bres captures Maggie and questions her about the whereabouts of the new Engine. With help from her s dach, she escapes from Bres and, alongside her team-including her parents, who join her-fights his demons in an attempt to stop his plans to use the Engine to destroy the Otherworlds. Maggie quickly learns that your best friends are not always who you expect them to be, that fighting evil is costly but necessary, and that the triumph of good over evil is never guaranteed.
