Cheerleading -- Just a fun and popular high school activity? Actually, handling pop poms turns out to be more brutal than football. Over 6,000 injuries were reported by the National Cheerleading Association in 1996, and on average a yell squad member lost 28.8 days after an accident compared to the quarterbacks who returned to the playing field after only 5.6 days or recuperation. As for Twister, Ginseng extract, and latex gloves, don't even think about it. I'm Afraid, You're Afraid is the very funny (and occasionally scary) companion-of-sorts to Polish Your Furniture with Pantyhose as written by the Anti-Joey Green. After twenty years as a health writer, Melinda Muse had been privy to too many amazing, nervous-making reports on public health, mortality and accident statistics, and bizarre safety anecdotes. After all that she had learned, she could either dig a hole in the ground and lie down, or laugh. with I'm Afraid, You're Afraid, she's chosen the latter option and has compiled in alphabetical order some of the strangest stories and humorously points out some of the hidden dangers in everyday things and activities.
A good book to take your mind of your OWN worries...

I enjoyed every bit of this book. Although a bit absured at times, it did give a few things to think about should I ever want to be an Obsessive Compulsive type. Beware... (With a smile)
The worrier's handbook

The world is a dangerous place! There's the Ebola virus, thunderstorms, sleepy truckers, meteors, and licorice. Licorice? Yes, licorice. It can cause high blood pressure, lung congestion, and irregular heartbeat. (I'm having some of these symptoms now, just from thinking about my favorite candy!) And did you know that firing someone doubles your risk of heart attack, that tryingto quit smoking increases your risk of an accident, and that you're more likely to be murdered during the first week of the month? This funny book is a Godsend to those in desperate need of more things to worry about. Read it and be amused-- and forewarned.

Melinda Muse takes some very serious subjects, that could be very dull, and writes about them in an entertaining way. I learned alot that I didn't know. I didn't know that there was a link between talcum powder and ovarian cancer or that people who are sensitive to poision oak and poision ivy shouldn't peel mangos. Out of 448 things to fear and why there is definately something for everyone to learn.
Very Funny Truth

This is one of the funniest books I have ever read and amazing since every entry is totally factual. Muse has done extensive research on everyday health and safety hazards and written about these hazards in a snappy, funny style that makes for great reading. Among my favorites are her entries on drumsticks, impotence, sneezes and toothbrushes.

Very funny book. It says why we should be afraid of things! I laughted at almost everyone. But they say these things are true so I guess they are not a laughing matter.
