Excellent Primer For Parenting As Well As Nutrition

I found this book 7 years ago while shopping in what was once a Mrs. Gooch's store, and I've been thankful ever since.It starts with Sandy Gooch's story -- how she was Mrs. AnyWoman USA, a regular wife, mother and schoolteacher who came down with a simple bout of sniffles that ended up almost costing her her life and how the slow and rocky, but educational road to recovery was paved with natural foods.It would behoove anyone who is interested in learning about the virtues of natural foods and nutrition (and why some of us are so fanatical about them), teaching those principles to their children and/or learning about how to better relate to said children to read this book. One of the things I liked about "If You Love Me..." is that although Sandy has a reputation for being a strict hard-liner when it comes to food ingredients, her methods for incorporating natural foods into your life are less in-your-face, more informative and offer lots of suggestions on how to make the transition easier for the whole family, including those who choose not to participate, like grandparents who routinely show love with homemade sweets and uncooperative ex-spouses.As I made mention of in my review title, it also incorporates part of Sandy Gooch's personal philosophy which has guided her not only in being a good parent and teacher, but in her business as well. It involves the notion that "Teaching Is An Act of Love" (ditto parenting), and six principles to keep in mind to guide you on your path: ACCEPTANCE, RESPONSIBILITY, FREEDOM, HONESTY, AFFIRMATION, and FUN. Who can argue the validity of that?Overall, this out-of-print book is a wonderful conglomeration of projects and stories, practical/spiritual wisdom and recipes, hugs and field trips. Definitely worth any time and effort it may take to find it.
