If only You Knew

I love the book. I tought it was very romantic and kept me in suspense, I coulndt book the book down. I would recommend this and other books from this author.

Romance Worth Reading

In Gwyneth Bolton's If Only You Knew, Latonya Stevens has worked hard all of her life. After her mother died, she helped her grandmother take care of her sister while putting herself through college. Now that she has graduated, Latonya has landed a good-paying job at Harrington Enterprises. Latonya is confident this job will ensure her ability to put her sister through college and pay the mortgage on the house that she shares with her ailing grandmother. Her confidence soon dwindles when Carlton Harrington III, the boss's grandson, takes over the Miami offices where she works. From day one, Carlton starts giving Latonya grief. From insulting her in front of her peers, to making her work long hours, Carlton leaves no stone unturned when it comes to humiliating her. Just when Latonya refuses to take the abuse any longer and q ui ts, Carlton kisses her and things between them are forever changed. The author's ability to immerse her readers into the lives of her characters and emotionally hold them hostage is uncanny. While reading this story I constantly whispered, "Something is missing, I do not feel this connection," despite Latonya and Harrington's undisputed devotion to each other. Just when I felt the story had run its course, the characters parted over the very thing that I realized was missing. To me, Bolton's ability to convey this so subtly was amazing. Very few authors have the ability to show a message so strongly without tel ling you. I commend Bolton for her ability to do just that. In addition, Bolton's exploration of prejudices inside the African race is to be commended as well. The prejudices Latonya, an African American, endured at the hands of Carlton's grandfather, a Bahamian, were realistic. As a native of Miami I have seen these very same stereotypes play out all too often. If romance is your thing, you will definitely want to be in the know with Gwyneth Bolton's If Only You Knew. T. Very Good!

I had heard varying opinions on this book so I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I'm glad that I did b/c I really enjoyed this book. Romance books cover a large spectrum and no this book was not you "typical" romance story. It was still good none the less. To me it dealt with the real issue of how kids who grow into adult and how they are effected by their parents' bad marriage. This was the case with Tonya and Carlton. They loved each other so much they were afraid that the past would repeat itself in their own marriage. The story had its H-O-T moments as well. The other characters in the story were great too. They made you laugh or made you want to fight. The stroy also dealt with black on black issues that are very relevant today. The reader is taken on a emtional roller coaster with this story. Again romance is very broad which this story demonstrates very very well. This was my first book by Ms. Bolton but it will not be the last one. Definie Recommendation!

great romance book dealing with black on black prejudices

I just got around to reading this book and could'nt put it down!! Very well written. I really enjoyed that it wasn't the typical romance novel because it deals with a subject that's hurtful. That there black on black racism. Carlton's grandfather and those within his social circle looked down on black americans. I know personally of such. A few years back a co-worker husband's family was in an uproar because his wife was a black american. His family was from Jamaica and rather well off. They could accept anyone else(white, latino, etc) but a black american. There view was just like Carlton's grandfather. She was a product of a lower income single parent home and they figured that she had little or no values and her family wanted to stay that way. This book makes a great book club read.

Awesome

Ms. Bolton has done an excellent job of writing outside the box for her book. This story explores how two broken people can heal from love and trust issues. I went through a range of emotions while reading. Carlton and Latonya show us that love conquers all. I am expecting great things from Ms. Bolton!!! You have my support!!!
