Cognitive functions of the brain are contributed by the neuro-physiological edifice of the brain. On receiving a stimulus from the environment, the response is
given by the wide processing of information. Cognition is a complex system that interrelates the functionalities of language, attention, perception, psychomotor skills, memory, and executive function. If brain is healthy, it works quickly and automatically but when problems occur, it is hazardous. When the cognitive functions of the brain are impaired, various types of brain disorders may happen.

Symptoms will be disease-specific. If the damage is permanent, it cannot be reversed. Otherwise surgery, medicines physical therapy can be applied to the affected area. Dementia is a clinical syndrome that is acquired, and the patient experiences deterioration from the previous functionalities in at least one of the following areas - language, visuospatial skills, executive abilities, and emotion. Dementia affects elder people but it not a result of the process of normal aging. The variants of dementia are Alzheimer's Disease, Vascular Dementia, mixed dementia, Lewy Bodies Dementia, Pronto Temporal Dementia.
