If you haven't yet decided whether this book is for you, click "Read Sample" to explore what my early readers had to say and read Chapter One. It is a condensed version of my story and the lessons I learned along the way, so you can understand the heart of this book before going any further. Consider it my gift to you.
At forty-four, I was choosing songs for my funeral.I had just been diagnosed with metastatic Stage IV colon cancer. Within weeks, I was septic, undergoing emergency surgeries, and being kept alive by machines. After an induced coma, I woke with an ostomy, a body I barely recognized, and one devastating word in my medical records: terminal.
I was supposed to die.
But waking up was only the beginning.
Medical intervention and immunotherapy helped save my life. Faith carried me through the darkest moments. Yet surviving forced me to face a truth I never expected: I believed I had been living a healthy life. I was wrong.
As I rebuilt, I began questioning everything I had accepted as normal: the food I ate, the ingredients I ignored, the stress I carried, and the habits quietly shaping my health. I learned that although I could not control every outcome, I could take the leading role in supporting my body and rebuilding my life.
I Was Supposed to Die is part raw memoir, part practical health guide, and part spiritual wake-up call for anyone who has felt frightened by a diagnosis, worn down by inflammation or exhaustion, trapped by family history, or confused by conflicting health advice.
Inside these pages, I share:
- The unfiltered reality of Stage IV cancer, ICU trauma, surgeries, treatment, and recovery
- How faith, mindset, discipline, and personal responsibility helped me move from surviving to truly living
- Simple ways to read ingredient labels, reduce processed foods, and make healthier choices without chasing perfection
- Practical routines and satisfying recipes that can support a stronger, more intentional life
- Why small, consistent choices often matter more than dramatic overnight change
This is not a promise of a cure, nor is it a rejection of medicine. It is an honest account of what happened when I stopped assuming my future had already been decided and began participating fully in my own healing.
Today, I am cancer-free.
Whether you are facing illness, supporting someone you love, or simply realizing it is time to take your health more seriously, this book will challenge you to look at your choices differently without demanding perfection.
And yes, eating healthy doesn't have to suck.
Do not wait for a diagnosis to make your health matter. You may not control every outcome, but you are not powerless.
