Good health. A beautiful home. A promising relationship. Most importantly, she was a devoted member of Seattle's largest and most influential megachurch-the Blessed and Highly Favored Full Gospel Church-where prosperity was celebrated as the unmistakable evidence of God's blessing.
Everything changed when Pastor Mark Lau, a visiting minister from China's underground church, delivered a series of messages at her megachurch that challenged the very foundation of what she believed. Many considered his sermons harsh, judgmental, and deeply offensive. Before long, he was asked to leave-and never come back.
Months later, Charmaine and her best friend, Meredith Geiger, travel to Shanghai expecting another unforgettable vacation filled with luxury hotels, fine dining, and world-class shopping.
Reconnecting with Pastor Mark Lau was expected. Discovering a thriving underground church meeting beneath a neighborhood dry cleaner was not. What they encountered there left both women stunned. While Charmaine found herself irresistibly drawn to the simple faith of the underground believers, Meredith was so shaken by what she witnessed that she cut short the vacation of a lifetime and hurried back to Seattle.
There, she warned Charmaine's boyfriend that something was terribly wrong.
Determined to rescue her from what they believed was the dangerous influence of a false teacher, lead pastors Julian and Imogen Mart n boarded the next flight to China.
What they found was nothing like they expected.
There they encountered believers who possessed almost nothing... yet radiated a joy, peace, and assurance that money could never buy.
The deeper Charmaine searched the Scriptures, the more the prosperity gospel she had embraced her entire life began to crumble.
For the first time in her life, Charmaine wondered if she had ever truly understood the Bible.
What if the greatest deception wasn't in China... but back home in Seattle?
As deeply held convictions collide and eternity hangs in the balance, each must decide whom they will believe... before it's too late.
A powerful Christian novel inspired by Matthew 7:21-23 about faith, deception, truth, and eternity.
