Excellent way to promote reading and spelling skills

I used I Can Spell Words With Three Letters with my daughter to review spelling and reading skills when she was four and now that she's five and about to start kindergarten in fall, I've been using this with her.. There are 100 colorful illustrations of four-letter pictures. For each picture, the child can flip through the letter cards (a parent/teacher may do this when working on phonics) until he/she has spelled the word. Then one can flip over the picture card to see if the word has been spelled correctly. Under each spelling, there is a simple definition provided. The flip book may be used in a few ways - one can either choose pictures at random, or work through each column in a row, e.g. the first row comprises baby in column 1, gift in column 2, fire in column 3, and swan in column 4. Comprehension skills can also be reinforced, e.g. asking questions about each picture, e.g. where could one find a swan? Provide sufficient wait-time to allow children to process what they see before they can spell (my daughter sounds the letters softly before sounding them aloud).

My daughter just turned four. We had a 3 letter word book until now that she exhausted. She loves her new 4 letter word book! She is so proud of herself and so are we.

My four year old is so proud of the words he is making in the book. It engages him for long periods of time and he really has fun. He is learning to link the word with the concept.

Spelling Made Fun

Just like I Can Spell Three Letter Words, I Can Spell Four Letter Words is a big hit with my son. He's been spelling with both books for several years and loves being able to check his spelling by flipping over the picture card to see if he's right. There are three sets of cards for the alphabet and three sets of pictures for kids to learn with. The pictures are colorful and fun. These books helped my son (who has a speech disorder) learn to spell so he could have another way to communicate with us prior to his being able to talk. It really is worth the money to buy these books! I love them!

Compact and Easy-to-Use

Four-letter words say it all (! ). They really do cover a good range of vowel and consonant combinations, and introduce new spellers to the most common spellings for short and long vowel words.For my bilingual children, this and the 3-letter volume have provided a stress-free way to practice English spelling -- they told me story-time could wait, they'd rather spell a few more words! They enjoy the colorful design and compact size.I also appreciate the fairly sturdy construction, and the double-spiral binding and velcro fastening, which allow children to mix-and-match letters without the risk and mess of losing individual pieces.
