When Nageku Shōsetsuka was just 7 years old, his life was turned upside down when he became the host of an imaginary parasitic bully named Maxim Hylo. Maxim had the power to feed from the unhappiness of his host, which made his host happy and in turn made Maxim stronger, but when Nageku began to abuse Max's power so that he no longer had to deal with the outside world, he ended up becoming a very antisocial and awkward adult. Nageku is now 25, and still has Max to take away the pain when he needs it, although he's now more determined to deal with things his own way. But how can he deal with a mysterious email from an unknown sender who claims someone he loves dearly is going to die soon if he doesn't follow a list of specific instructions?
