What is service in Christianity, and how does one serve as a Christian? In How to Serve, His Eminence Metropolitan Youssef answers these questions and many others on a subject he knows intimately, speaking not from book knowledge but from his vast decades-long experience in service, spanning from when he was a young man serving in the Sunday school movement in Egypt to his ordination as a bishop for the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of the Southern United States in 1992, continuing to the present. In this book, His Eminence also explores the principles of effective service, how to avoid burnout, how to handle conflict in service, and the challenges we face in the 21st century. Christ is the pattern of service, and our goal is to imitate Christ, who said, "The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve," and "If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet."
H.E. Metropolitan Youssef was ordained Bishop in 1992 and elevated to Metropolitan in 2022 for the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of the Southern United States. His Eminence has completed a Ph.D. degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, TX.
