"No matter how you say it...buying, selling, trading, and bargaining is a language we all understand

All around the world, people buy and sell goods in markets. Ted Lewin introduces readers to six unique markets in such diverse places as Madras (India) and Lambertville (New Jersey). In Thailand, selling and buying takes place aboard long thin boats, where people buy fruits with such lyrical names as pomelo and rambutan. Some vendors even cook food right on their boats! Other highlights include a market high up in the Peruvian Andes and a camel market outside of Cairo. Lewin's watercolors have soft edges and very bright colors. The detailed pictures convey the bustling excitement of a market full of interesting goods. Consider pairing this book with Lois Ehlert's Market Day or with any of Norah Dooley's Everybody books (Everybody Cooks Rice / Brings Noodles / Bakes Bread / Serves Soup)
