The Houston metroplex and 24 surrounding counties possess striking natural beauty, unique biodiversity, and globally important ecological resources. With lively, engaging text and vivid color photographs and illustrations throughout, the Houston Atlas of Biodiversity highlights the variety, cultural importance, and global value of the natural environment found within the Houston Wilderness project area. Written by a consortium of authors in conjunction with the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) and Houston Wilderness, the Houston Atlas of Biodiversity focuses on habitats, animal and plant communities, and broad multi-county ecoregions. It demonstrates how local parks and preserves are part of an interconnected, diverse natural world
I love the Atlas of Biodiversity. I am so impressed with the photographs and the information. It was the perfect gift for my father and anyone who loves nature! You will not be disappointed with your purchase.
Hip Hip Hooray for Houston Biodiversity!

This book is not the most scientific treatment of wildlife and flora in the Houston area, but it does a good job of celebrating the beauty that surrounds Houstonians. We, as Houstonians, are unfortunately seen as lacking appreciation for wildlife. While this is generally true, this book gives those of the Houston area - young and old - the opportunity to discover what is out there in our backyards. The book gives a good overview of the different habitats that make up the Upper Texas Gulf Coast Area. I recommend this book if you want to know what's out there and want to learn more about day trips that you can take around the area to observe nature. The bayous in the city are a great place to start! There weren't as many pictures as I had hoped. The maps are well thought out and easy to read. At some points, the author(s) get long-winded, but it is all in the celebration of the under-appreciated flora and fauna of the area.
