Excellent resource for overwhelmed and newly diagnosed

I'm writing to tell you what comfort I received from reading your book. I read it the first time within two weeks of my husband's diagnosis and the start of chemotherapy. I have reread it again recently, and take it out when I need someone to reassure me God is in control, and to have faith. I often read sections to my husband that I feel will be of the most benefit to continue his incredibly strong belief he can beat it, no matter what the statistics say. There is so much out there to read that I feel overwhelmed by all the information. However, very few books make you feel BETTER about this very "sucky" situation. Thank you to someone who really needed it, and appreciates it.

Truly a book of Hope!

This book is a great resource for people who are dealing with cancer. It truly is a book of hope, a survival guide for those on a difficult journey. The last words of Dr. Givler's book are truly inspiring: "When I look back, I see the difficult experiences of my life helping to strengthen my character and draw me closer to God. Knowing that this has been true in the past gives me confidence that it will also be true in the future.

Searching for Meaning

Dr. Givler's book is full of practical advice and individual medical case scenarios, written in simple language, that help the reader on `the journey you did not choose.' Whether you are the spouse, the friend, the relative, or the treating doctor, this book is for you. It provides a framework from which to start if `cancer' has become a part of your life, or the life of someone you care about or for whom you provide care. Dr. Givler's book, along with "A Guide to Medical Resources" outlined within the book, would have been very helpful, not only for me, but my mother and her siblings, since my grandmother died of cervical cancer is 1984. (I have since passed my copy of this wonderful book on to one of my mother's sisters, and I have already asked a dear friend of mine if she would like a copy - her brother-in-law has cancer.)By the time you get to the last chapter of Amy Givler's book, "Searching for Meaning," you're familiar enough with her rhythmic style of writing that you expect, and need the profound insights and quotes. Dr. Givler's book gives perspective on a life changing, life threatening situation in the context of faith, something many unknowingly search for and few ever find.

What an awesome book!

My mother has lived with metastatic breast cancer for the past 5 years. It has been a long, hard road and we have read alot of books. None of them have helped the way this one has! This is the first book I've ever read that gave me "hope". That word has never been a part of my vocabulary. I can now look at my Mom as a "survivor"! I was amazed at the insight Dr. Givler has about all the facets of dealing with cancer. I loved the way she opens herself and shares her personal story. She gave me a new perspective of looking at doctors that I really needed. This book is a must read for anyone who has cancer or anyone who knows someone with cancer. It is a very enjoyable book to read. I couldn't put it down once I had started. I wish this book had been around 5 years ago!
