FABULOUS, mythical photos -- A must-own for Hollywood lovers!

I heartily agree that this book is a wonderfully informative "read" -- but WOW! what a SPECTACULAR collection of historical monochrome photos! Each one of the several remarkable eras (spanning 1879-1979) of this mythic, Protean town is worth the book's price all by itself. It's gratifying to learn that so many of the landmarks of the various bygone days are still wholly or partly preserved; the 300+ nostalgic sepia pix provide all the consolation and wonder that are left to us of those which aren't. If you have ever lived in or near Hollywood, visited there, or are just fascinated by the place, grab up an aftermarket copy of this classic title -- IF you can find one!
Great Read

Very good overall history of the beginings of Hollywood to the late 70's. Lots of geographical info on where things are (or were) located in the city. Covers Hollywood by decades and describes some of the big events in the city for each decade and those events of the country that affected Hollywood. Very easy read, read it a second time in about two days time.
