Hidden Shadows (The Shadow Series)

I decided to read this book when I reviewed a local article and discovered that the author is from my hometown of Jackson TN. My one exception to immensely enjoying the book is the fact that whomever the editors and proofreaders are for this publishing company, very much need to go back and take a refresher course! There were so many misspelled words and/or incorrect words throughout the book, that having to substitute the correct word was quite frustrating, in that it took me away from what the writer was trying to convey at the time. However, that being said I did enjoy the book and will be reading the sequel Chasing Shadows. I don't like to give too much away when reviewing a book but will give you a bit of insight and hopefully that will be enough for you to decide whether you want to read it. This is a good romantic mystery. Jenna, the lead character, is a single mother raising her two young children without much help from their father, who just happened to cheat on her. Her life is pretty good considering all of this. She owns her own house, has her own practice and lives for her daughter and son. Her relationship with her parents is somewhat strained, and she has the 'perfect' sister. Jenna specializes in helping young couples who have had miscarriages and suffer from depression. She, like many women who are divorced, has trust issues with men. Then one day, along comes 'the hunk' Ben and the chemistry between the two is obvious, but she of course fights it. Desiree is a woman who had several miscarriages, works menial jobs at various hospitals in the hopes of stealing a newborn baby but almost gets caught, and finally realizes she has to stop that and decides that revenge will allow her to accomplish her dream of having her own child. Strange things begin to happen to Jenna - notes, vandalism, phone calls, etc. Who IS Desireee and what is the relationship between her and Jenna? What is Ben's secret about his brother? Will Jenna overcome her fears of trust and allow Ben to become a part of her and her children's lives? The characters are strong and the book has good twists and turns. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel to see how the characters evolve.
