*** DELUXE LIMITED EDITION HARDCOVER with exclusive content, stenciled edges, reversible dust jacket, foil stamping, and designed endpapers *** Like Buffy or The Vampire Diaries but with tons more spice, a titillating fork-tongued demon, and a ritualistic monster cult, the edgy dark romance that set TikTok on fire is now available as a special deluxe, extremely limited edition hardcover for fans of Scarlett St. Claire, Penelope Douglas, and Katee Robert. Leon My reputation among magicians is unblemished. Killer, they call me; killing is what I'm best at. One wrong move and you're dead. Except her. The one I was supposed to take, the one I should have killed. The cult that once controlled me wants her, but I'm not about to lose my new toy to them. Rae I've always believed in the supernatural. Hunting for ghosts is my passion, but summoning a demon was never part of the plan. Monsters are roaming the woods, and something ancient--something evil--is waking up . . . and calling my name. I don't know who I can trust, or how deep this darkness goes. All I know is my one shot at survival is the demon stalking me, and he doesn't just want my body--he wants my soul.
Review summary:
The spice be spicing and the spooky be spooking. I loved the creepy small town atmosphere and the pulse-pounding thriller energy the prose gave, blissfully accompanied by demonic beings— both good and bad.
Full review:
The spooky, small town mystery vibe was fantastic, perfect with the dark atmosphere of the cult and demons. I hate to compare a spicy book with a childhood cartoon, particularly one that I love, but it almost felt like a grown-up Scooby Doo, minus the talking dog, ensemble cast, and the bad guy not being a real ghost. Speaking of the spice, though, I loved almost all the scenes; however, I did feel there were a tad too many of them. They fit well enough into the story so they didn't seem irrelevant, but they did seem out of place at times. But again, the scenes were so good, and to my taste, I can excuse the frequency.
Because of the spice frequency, I felt sometimes the plot was lacking, falling into "that" trap, but it was more like small side quests off the plot, if that makes sense. The story is solid, and I'm really looking forward to reading the other two books - Her Soul for Revenge and Soul of a Witch - To see what I'm assuming will be the same tale played out with a different plot from the point of view of the other books' main characters that we met in this book. I'm particularly looking forward to Soul of a Witch as Everly intrigued me. But I want more of the relationship between Leon and his friend Zane, who will be the main male character in Her Soul for Revenge.
I felt Rae was a little cheesy at times, but she's also a college kid, so I just chalked it up to young goofiness, and her (perfect amount of) brattiness, too. The creatures weren't wholly unique as I do remember similar beings from something I've read or watched in the past. Though, I do feel like they're a rarity that was enjoyable and added a touch more creepiness to the atmosphere than general, big scary monsters. I don't want to give more details in case of spoilers, but I want to know more about the creatures and being in the wilderness; them being another driving force behind wanting to finish the Souls Trilogy.

Let me be real: I really had to push myself to get through this one. It dragged in parts, and I came close to DNF’ing a few times. But somewhere past the halfway mark, it finally picked up, and the ending gave me just enough to be curious about book two.
I’m a dark romance girly, so I need depth, I need angst, and I need to know why a character is messed up. This book skimmed the surface but didn’t give me quite what I craved. There’s a little bit of spice, but not enough to fan myself over.
Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️ / 5
Romance Level: 4 / 10
Overall Feel: Meh, but maybe the series gets better?
If you’ve read the trilogy—does it pick up?? Do I keep going or cut my losses?
Her soul to take is fantastic.

Young adults and older will love this book. Well if you're into sadistic exotic romance with the paranormal involved. I could see fellow witches adding this to their library list. I could barely put it down and can't wait to read the next book in this series.
