When Kate Brodie inherits half a run-down cattle station, she doesn't expect to have a sexy cattleman boss to contend with Noah Carmody doesn't need a city girl like Kate trying her pretty hand at Outback life, but he's a single dad now, and Kate's the only person within a hundred miles who'll help him restore Radnor to its former glory. So he'll grudgingly show her the ropes.... As they toil together under the Outback sun, romance should be the last thing on their minds...shouldn't it?
I have only recently started reading Mills and Boon/Harlequin romances - for research purposes of sorts. While I love a lot of the romantic suspense stories, I have had a hard time finding any straight category romances that hold my attention. The hokey titles don't help the situation. First and foremost, Barbara Hannay gets an extra star for presenting a realistic and believable Australia - no doubt because she is actually Australian. There are too many American writers who set their stories in Australia and yet have never travelled to here and who rely entirely on inaccurate clichés and stereotypes. Non-Australian readers who want to read a realistic Australian romance should seek out this author. This is what our country's really about. Both leads are likeable, and the surprising tenderness of their romance contrasts beautifully with the harshness of the landscape and the difficulties in their story. Noah is your typical gruff Australian man with a wonderfully, gentle, caring side. Kate is perfect for him. As far as Harlequin romances go, this story is about as good as it gets.
