Hell is real. Don Winner set out to prove it wasn't.
After publishing his first book on near-death experiences (NDEs), Winner posted a video titled "Hell Does Not Exist." The pushback came fast: go look at the distressing NDEs, the accounts of demons, fire, and torment. So he did. He applied the same tradecraft he used for 20 years as a U.S. Air Force intelligence analyst and linguist, including an assignment as an analyst at the National Security Agency (NSA). He pulled the accounts apart, line by line, and the evidence reversed him.
Hell exists. It just doesn't come from death. It comes from the living brain.
When a person lies trapped in a coma after a catastrophic injury, the survival system keeps firing at full volume into a body that cannot move. Winner calls the result a Fear Coma Experience (FCE): pure terror, generated by a living brain, with no exit. Those experiences produce the demons, the darkness, and the burning that people have described for as long as humans have told stories.
People who die and have a true NDE report the opposite: peace, light, a life review, and overwhelming love, with no fear at all.
The famous hell accounts, Winner shows, are two separate events welded together in memory: an FCE from the coma and an NDE from the moment of death. Separate the weld, and the contradiction disappears.
"Hell Exists, But Only For The Living" traces where the idea of hell came from, how the earliest religions built it out of terrified survivors' stories, and why it has nothing to do with what waits for you when you die.
Winner writes as an investigator, not a believer. He names the cases, lays out the evidence, and follows it where it leads. If you've ever feared hell, or wondered why some people come back from the edge of death screaming while others come back at peace, this book gives you the answer.
Hell is for the living. Death is something else entirely.
