This is a very clear theoretical book on the subject of HVAC, but it covers more ground than just that. You shoud have done a basic course on calculus and one on thermodynamics before starting this book, but that's about all. There are lots of worked examples. Here is the table of contents (OCR'd) Preface 1 Basic Concepts and Definitions 1.1 A Bit of History 1.2 Importance of Buildings in the U.S. Economy 1.3 Role of HVAC Design Engineer 1.4 A Note on the Economics of Energy Efficiency 1.5 Units and Conversions 1.6 Orders of Magnitude 2 Elements of Heat Transfer for Buildings 2.1 Introduction to Heat Transfer 2.2 Conduction Heat Transfer 2.3 Convection Heat Transfer 2.4 Radiation Heat Transfer 2.5 Evaporation and Moisture Transfer 2.6 Closure 3 Review of Thermodynamic Processes in Buildings 3.1 Introduction to Thermodynamics 3.2 Thermodynamic Properties 3.3 First Law of Thermodynamics 3.4 Second Law of Thermodynamics and Thermodynamic Cycles 4 Psychrometrics, Comfort, and Health 4.1 Introduction and Definitions 4.2 Thermodynamic Fundamentals 4.3 The Psychrometric Chart and Tables of Air Properties 4.4 Psychrometric Processes for Buildings 4.5 Thermal Comfort 4.6 Air Quality and Ventilation 5 Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics in Building Systems 5.1 Introduction 5.2 Basic Concepts 5.3 Pressure Losses in Liquid and Air Systems 5.4 Prime Movers 5.5 Flow Measurement 6 Solar Radiation and Windows 6.1 Solar Geometry 6.2 Extraterrestrial Insolation 6.3 Insolation Data and Models 6.4 Sol-Air Temperature 6.5 Windows 7 Heating and Cooling Loads 7.1 Air Exchange 7.2 Principles of Load Calculations 7.3 Storage Effects and Limits of Static Analysis 7.4 Zones 7.5 Heating Loads 7.6 CLTD/CLF Method for Cooling Loads 7.7 Transfer Functions for Dynamic Load Calculations 8 Annual Energy Consumption and Special Topics 8.1 Annual Consumption 8.2 Thermal Networks 8.3 Other Models 8.4 System Identification 8.5 Comparison of Calculations with Each Other and with Measured Data 9 Heat Generation and Transfer Equipment 9.1 Introduction 9.2 Natural Gas and Fuel-Oil-Fired Equipment 9.3 Electric Resistance Heating 9.4 Electric Heat Pumps 9.5 Heat Exchanger Design and Selection 9.6 Low-Temperature Radiant Heating 9.7 Solar Heating 10 Cooling Equipment 10.1 Introduction 10.2 Rankine Refrigeration Cycle 10.3 Absorption Cycle 10.4 Mechanical Cooling Equipment-Chillers 10.5 Part-Load Performance of Chillers 10.6 Rules for Chiller System Operation and Control in Commercial Buildings 10.7 Evaporative Cooling Equipment 11 Secondary Systems for Heating and Cooling 11.1 Air Distribution Systems 11.2 Piping Design 11.3 Complete HVAC Systems for Commercial Buildings 11.4 HVAC System Design Sizing and Energy Calculations l2 Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning Control Systems 12.1 introduction -The Need for Control 12.2 Basic Control Hardware 12.3 Basic Control System Design Consideration 12.4 Ex

Excellent Teaching Book

I am teaching this book at our Architectural Engineering Department at the University of Bahrain. Students consider it as an excellent HVAC textbook, easy to understand and covers all their required topics in HVAC for B.Sc. students

Excelent Text on the subject of HVAC

This is the best book on this subject I have found. It is aimed at practicing engineers and engineering students however. It is very mathmatical and may not be of much use to technicians.
