Five women....one storm....satisfying ending

Hearts on a String was the first book I've read by Kris Radish. She has, however, written several others that would probably be termed women's fiction. Even though I am very partial to women's friendship books, I was a bit uncertain in the first half of the book whether I would be pleased with the outcome. The main characters were five cranky, pushy, and, quite frankly, annoying women, who meet in an airport restroom just prior to the storm of the century hitting Tampa, Florida. They come together initially to help one of the group with a crisis involving a phone and a public toilet. I don't know about you, but I would never have put my hands in a public toilet at an airport to fish out a cell phone, even if the phone was made of pure gold. However, this is the storyline. I wavered. Should I continue reading? I did, after having gone and washed my hands a couple of times (public toilet - ick!!). I am very pleased to report that my instincts were solid. I definitely would have missed a killer of an ending had I laid this book aside. Although I had some reservations about the storyline in the first half of the book, Kris Radish did a great job of bringing all the threads of the story together for a rollicking finish. At the end of the book, I wondered whether it was her intention to make the women so unappealing in the beginning so that they could be so great at the end. My advice to the reader is to hang in there. These women are in for a wonderful journey and you'll want to be around for the ride.

Worth a read, despite the title and cover art

I liked this book a lot more than I originally thought I would. This is the story of 5 women who meet in an airport restroom and form a bond over the following 4 days. They didn't always get along and they didn't always like each other, but in the end, they formed a wonderful bond. This is a wonderful story of womanhood, strength, companionship, and adventure. It's not just a fluff-filled women knitting and drinking tea story. There is a surprisingly exciting adventure that I don't want to give away. Toward the end of the story I thought it was dragging on a bit and I was waiting for the last page. However, at the very end, everything came together very nicely and I was happy with the ending. One thing I did not like was the cover. I think the women riding down stair railings is very cheesy and has nothing to do with the story at all. If I had not won this but had seen this book at the bookstore, I would not have even picked it up based on the cover and the title.

Hearts on a String

This is a wonderful book, I have read all of Kris Radish's boook and and have loved every one of them. her books are full of emotion, the power of friendship and female bonding that can span decades. Once you read one of her books , you will be hooked adn have to read the rest of them. when I finish won, I can't wait until she writes another one.

fun sisterhood bonding tale

The extreme weather conditions running across much of the country shuts down the Tampa International Airport. Five women waiting for flights meet and agree to share a luxury suite at a nearby hotel on the beach. Tense Nan arranges the stay. Joining her are Vegas lounge act Patti, house-mom of three teens Margo, reticent Buckeye hair stylist Holly and sex oozing Cathy. Each shares their personal tale of triumphs and much more defeats. However, the encounter rejuvenates each of the females; as they make more than just make due of a bad situation; instead being grounded has helped them become grounded. Each one of the fearsome fab five females has a distinct personality that in turn makes their sisterhood bonding that much stronger. However, instead of only focusing on the quintet's personal life sagas; subplots also involve psychics and secret agents that detract from the group. Still fans of Kris Radish will enjoy being grounded by weather in Tampa with the Hearts on a String quintet. Harriet Klausner
