good information

I think this is a great resource for women and worth reading. Good background information about heart disease in women as well as how to prevent it and what you can do about it. Good nutritional advice and sound habits to get in to. Beware to have the latest information that books sometimes lack.

women need to read this book

All women - and anyone who knows and loves a woman who might have cardiovascular disease - should read this book. The information is clear and easy to follow. There is a lot of information, but you can glean a lot of useful tips and helpful advice without studying every word. The great part of this book is that there is a recipe for treating and preventing this disease that really works. According to statistics from this book and others: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the largest single cause of death among women, accounting for one third of all deaths. In the United States, more women die from cardiovascular diseases -461,000 women-- each year than from all types of cancer and the next three leading causes of death combined. Each year, heart disease and stroke kills more women than men. One woman dies every minute in the U.S. from cardiovascular illnesses. In the U.S., 38.2 million women are living with cardiovascular disease and the population at risk is even larger. Minority women are particularly at risk for heart disease and stroke. For example, nearly half of African American women (45%) have some form of cardiovascular disease, compared to 32 percent of white women. As women get older, their risk increases. One in 10 American women aged 45 to 64 has some form of heart disease, and this rises to one in four women over the age of 65. In addition, 2 million women have had a stroke, and 93,000 women die of this condition each year--that's 40,000 more women than men. As a result of the lack of public and scientific attention to these diseases in females, women have not known they were at risk and have often been under-diagnosed, not as aggressively treated and not offered critical preventive interventions as compared with men. As a result of these gender disparities, since 1984 more women have died each year from heart disease than men and the gap between men and women's survival continues to widen. 42% of women who have heart attacks die within 1 year as compared to 24% of men. Under age 50, women's heart attacks are twice as likely to be fatal as men's. This book (and others by the same author) counters the lack of knowledge and advice that women are getting from their healthcare practitioners. I recommend you take the book with you to your next doctor's appointment and make sure your doctor knows about CVD in women and about the recommendations in this book.

Essential Material

This book belongs in the hands of every woman and every man who knows a woman. Heart disease kills women more and faster than any other disease. Women have to smarten up about this. Dr. Sinantra is THE person to listen to when it comes to women's hearts. He is a compassionate, caring, and uniquely skilled physician who loves women, understands what makes women tick (literally and figuratively), and he wants to help keep women healthy and happy. Please buy it. Even if you and yours have no history of heart disease. If you are not so inclined don't let the word "natural" in the title throw you. This is bona fide medical information. Heartbreak and Heart Disease is also great....

Family history woes!

Unfortunately, women in our family seem to have the hidden killer of heart disease. I vow to stop that trend. Sinatra's book is the key to showing me how. I found the information very understandable and the suggestions valid. Co-Q10, ALA, etc are supplements that will help me maintain a healthy heart - along with diet and exercise of course. Additional documentation that coroborates with Sinatra's research can be found at a site called PapaNature. See for yourself how important it is that we women understand this silent killer. It seems that the medical field is a bit slow in identifying the various (and different from men) symptoms women have. See what Sinatra and PapaNature have to offer in terms of information and supplements to help us help (save) ourselves.

Outstanding and new information--a must for every woman

What an eye opener! Every woman I know worries about breast cancer, and I don't know one who even considers that they are at risk for heart disease which will kill many more. This book is both a wake up call and an amazingly empowering tool. If you are a woman you need this book. It is warm, wise and wonderful and your key to a long and heart disease-free life. If you already have heart problems you can learn how to help yourself. Dr. Sinatra not only has the finest medical credentials, he is an expert in both alternative medicine and the psychological solutions needed to complete the picture.
