Heart of the Hills gives thrills

This was one of my all time favorite books as a teenager. It's perfect for someone who loves history and romance, especially frontier stories. The main character is the wealthy Carrie, still a teenager, who goes to live with her sister, Mattie, the black sheep of the family, out in the middle of no where, out west. There are babies being birthded, encounters with an old native american lady, stagecoach rides, and romance. Everything you would want in a western young adult romance. I read this book over and over again.

It'll steal your heart

Kate Miller is excited to learn that her sister, Mattie, is pregnant. She anticipates being her sister's mid-wife until she realizes that her sister is due around the same time as several local women. Mattie lives in a rather isolated spot in the rough and tumble Wyoming territory and Kate knows that her sister most likely will not have the medical help that she needs. So, since she is unable to leave her clients, Kate sends her daughter, Carrie, who she has trained herself in the art of mid-wifing.Carrie sets off on her adventure newly engaged and full of dreams. She arrives to a load of hardwork, a dangerous land, and a cowboy who is infuriating...to say the least. As Carrie finds herself called upon to do all the little things the local doctor doesn't have time for, Carrie feels like she has a place and a purpose in the Black Hills. The feeling of being at home grows as Carrie's dislike of a certain cowboy grows to feelings of true friendship and then into something much stronger. But as soon as her aunt's baby is born, Carrie must return home to her fiance and her old life...no matter what her heart is telling her. This is a realistic and engaging book. Carrie is the perfect heroine: spunky, strong-willed, and utterly naive. It is a must read for fans of the American dreams series.

Great book!

Carrie, a third-generation midwife, has come to Wyoming to assist her pregnant aunt. Although she is engaged to a young man back home and plans to marry him when she gets back, the young man she meets and falls in love with in Wyoming makes Carrie realize she doesn't really love her fiance. This was a great story and also a realistic look at life on the Wyoming frontier.
