An answer to my chronic allergies

Dan's book came in my Christmas stocking and was one of the best gifts ever. I have been suffering (daily) from allergies that started almost a year ago in April. Patch tests reveiled varying levels of sensitivity to all of the 48 things tested (pollens, pet dander, dust, mold ...). I can't begin to tell you about the long list of medical (traditional and non-)treatments that I've tried or am trying. I will tell you that I am taking Dan's advise very seriously and slowly removing the hazards from the place I go to for santuary -- my home! Had I begun this process last April (as a first on the list of things to do to make myself healthy again) my home would be a santuary.

I learned a lot.

I recommend this book. I am an Indoor Environmental Professional. I was surprised at how much I learned from this book. I am going to include it in the suggested reading section of every report I write for home and building owners. Americans are concerned about excercise and what we eat, yet we spend 90% of our time indoors and do not think much about indoor air quality. Thanks Mr. Stih for your consideration for those of us who breathe.

A must have book for healthy living in a healthy home

A healthy home for healthy living must have book, January 16, 2009 By J. J. Senay (Ohio) - See all my reviews Before reading Daniel Stih's book, Healthy Living Spaces: Top 10 Hazards Affecting Your Health, I was completely in the dark. Now I feel I have all the information I need to make a healthy home. I highly recommend this book to any and all who are curious about the health hazards that are most assuredly lurking in the hidden places of their homes. Don't go shopping for remidies on your own. All green products are not created equal. Use the many great ideas and suggestions with which Daniel has filled his book.

Small but loaded with solid data and great tips

This book is short and to the point, informational, educational and packed full of well-researched and not so well-known facts about things in our homes that could be detrimental to our health. Every chapter is well-organized: how to detect or find the problem, how to fix it (most solutions are "do-it-yourself" ones) and resources are listed at the end of each chapter. This little book has substance and the author doesn't waste your time with a lot of babbling about stuff you already know. We're all aware that environmental toxins are bad for us. This book tells us how to find them and how to get rid of them ! It's a quick read (easily read in one sitting) and yet covers the major topics like mold, dust, gas, wiring errors (that can cause elevated exposure to electromagnetic fields), remodeling, new house smell, ductwork, crawlspaces, ceiling cavities and more. As another reviewer pointed out, editing of this book was weak but the valuable information herein more than makes up for the annoyance of poor grammar or a few mispelled words.
