Dr.Sergent-A true definition of the word doctor!

I am fortunate to be an actual patient of Dr.Sergent. My name is Chitoka Webb - In 2006 I had to be rushed to the hospital- my symptoms were unknown and sudden. After a day in the hospital a doctor was assigned to my case. When he walked into the room I knew my prayers had been answered,he greeted me with a smile(Not a clipboard) and told me his name was Dr.Sergent, he then placed his warm hand on top of my hand and said to me "Dont worry I am going to take care of you" I had no idea that he literally meant that;three years later and he still answers every phone call, email and any question that is floating around in my head. I have a rare disease called Behcets , with his guidance my health has improved ten fold. This book is a must read;Filled with real life experiences that one can relate to whether you are the doctor or the patient. I feel so honored to have him as my doctor. I can validate that the wonderful things he shares with you in his book is an under statement to the joy that he has added to so many lives across the country.

An outstanding book.

Very uplifting were the words of Mr. Sergent's book on "healing words!" Each article compiled from his newspaper column spoke to my heart. Here is evidence that a man of great medical skill and with a keen desire to impart knowledge to his students and to the public, as well, receives his life's inspiration from the Almighty God. How fortunate is Nashville to have such a meek and wise citizen! Dennis Moel, Louisville, KY.

your life relfected in his stories

John Sergent's reflections are compelling, moving, and inspiring. The writings create a sort of tapestry, one that somehow seems to include our own life experiences and so many universal themes. It's a powerful book - a wonderful book to keep by your bedside, and a great book to give as a gift to a family member or special person.

Wonderful Insight

This compilation of 81 brief newspaper essays is remarkable. The reader is soon captured by Dr Sergent's empathy for his patients, and you can't help but wish that you had him for your own doctor. Progressing through the collection, one is served much food for thought, beautifully well expressed, and sometimes at odds with one's own perceptions. The material is always personal--always engaging. I believe it should be mandatory reading for medical students and residents. Beyond that, anyone who is, has been, or will be a patient should read this book. It is illuminating to discover how a real "Top Doctor" looks at himself, his patients, and the world around him.

a touching must read

A beautiful memoir of a physician's love for his work, his patients, his family and humankind -- wonderfully written, passionate, poignant and inspirational. It brought tears and chuckles and warmed my heart. This is the doctor we all wish we had.
