Taking charge of your health.

Dr Offenhauser tells of how she took charge of her health and use natural means to address her cancer. Tells of avoiding toxins and making diet changes to increase her body's ability to heal itself. I found a lot that I can use to keep my own body healthy.

It's More than a Memoir! This book blends the author's own story with a wealth of specific and helpf

This book is very unique in that it blends the author's own story of her battle with cancer (which is quite amazing) with a lot of very practical and actionable information (advice, resources, links to websites, etc). The writing is very direct and I found the book to be well organized. The advice provided should ring true with anyone who's disenchanted with aspects of today's health care industry and open to exploring lesser-known methods of healing. The author makes some very interesting points about the incredible power of the human body to adapt and evolve, particularly in response to challenges (i.e. cancer). Her arguments are impassioned and backed by personal experiences (both her own and those of others). While some may feel that the author's views are somewhat controversial, they didn't come across to me as being overly extreme or "out there" -- which was one of my concerns when I first considered purchasing the book. In fact, I thought her critiques of conventional medicine were spot on. The book describes itself as a "Memoir" but I'd consider it to be more of a hybrid between an actual memoir and a manual for how to fight cancer with a combination of natural medicine, herbs, diet, holistic methodologies, etc. My only regret is that I didn't come across this book sooner. I've lost two close friends to cancer in the past year and in both cases they were disserved by the "hospital establishment". Had I been able to reference this book at the time to help me explore some alternative methods of treatment, I feel like their chances would have been much better (particularly in one case where a doctor's lack of action and refusal to consider any "outside the box" treatment options truly bordered on negligence).
