This picture book depicts the drama of Easter morning in words from Scripture (ESV translation) and in beautiful, realistic illustrations. David Erickson's eloquent paintings capture the events of Good Friday and Easter morning. In He Is Risen, Indeed!, children will learn the facts of Jesus' suffering, death, and resurrection. But the main point of this book is to teach children about God's grace. It is through Jesus' suffering and death on our behalf, not through our own effort, that we are forgiven of our sins and asssured of eternal life.
He Is Risen Indeed! tells the story of the first Easter. The book begins with Jesus' death (not the actual crucifixion) and ends with His appearance before his Disciples, shortly before His ascension into the Heavens. The text for this book is taken from the English Standard Version of the Bible, using the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Each double-page spread contains a beautiful, life-like painting covering three-fourths of the page. The paintings are done in muted earth tones, giving the book a solemn tone. The text is written along the left border of each page. A Biblical reference is given at the end of each section of text. What I Like: The illustrations are simply beautiful and add much to the book. What I Dislike: Each double-page is set up the same way, with no variation throughout the book. While this provides continuity, I find it a bit monotonous. Overall Rating: Very good. Age Appeal: The publisher's suggested age range is from 4 years to adult. I think 4 years old is bit too young for this book, as the text comes from the Bible and would difficult for a 4-year-old to understand. - Christine M. Irvin (Christian Children's Book Review)
