Nice bit o' work there, mate

Lovely. Great bit of vers libre. The "felicity of expression" at certain moments in the poems is striking. Worth twice the cover price. My favorite is the title poem.

Sitting Down With a Friend

Reading Paul Willis's new book is like sitting down with a good friend sharing a vivid scrapbook of a life thoughtfully lived. While this scrapbook features the grand landscapes of national parks and tender memories of people loved and lost, it also includes bits and pieces of the seemingly mundane: bifocals, fingernails, yet-to-be-housebroken dogs, tennis balls on a wet lawn. These are the poems that especially come to life for me--I don't think I'll ever walk through my kitchen in the middle of the night without recalling the appliances in "Candles Waking" or see a bride without thinking of the poodle bouquet in "Annie's Wish." These are smart, funny, heartbreaking and human poems. A gift of a book!

A fantastic second book!

Poem after poem after poem, Paul Willis's Rosing from the Dead is spectacular. Or perhaps that's not the most precise adjective, for Willis's poems are generally quiet, thoughtful and carefully crafted.
