If Hank the Hummer were asked to name his favorite subject in school, flight class would certainly not be number one on his list.
Herkey Hawk, Ed Eagle, and Frank Falcon refused to include him in their daily after-school flight adventures. They constantly teased him about his small size, the way his wings beat so quickly, his need for sipping flower nectar, and his practice of praying each day before eating lunch.
Hank's mother reassured him and told him to ignore their bullying because he had extraordinary skills they did not possess. She told him he should always remember he was unique and that he was small--but good things come in small packages.
Hank so wished to be one of the guys, and one day he thought he was finally becoming a member of the group. Little did he know that what he assumed was an expression of friendship was really just a trick.
Tiny Hank, however, surprised his classmates by using his unique gifts to save the day
Readers can learn more about these gifts from the "Facts About Hummingbirds" section, which appears after the end of the story.
Enjoy and think of Hank the Hummer next time you see a hummingbird
