Hallel True communal joy

This book is a guide to the prayer 'Hallel'. 'Hallel' consists in Psalms 113-118 and is a central Jewish prayer of celebration. 'Hallel' is said on Rosh Chodesh, on the three Pilgrim Festivals, on all eight days of Chanukah. It is said on joyous occasions and in times of gratitude for a miracle or act of Redemption. This guide details the customs in prayer, provides commentary on them, enriches our understanding of the meaning of this central prayer. It considers major questions regarding 'Hallel'. It contains at the close of the essays on 'Hallel' the text of the Psalms, a translation and commentary. 'Hallel' is said as prayer of Gratitude on miracles which are not those ordinary miracles of everyday life, and the natural working of the world. It is a prayer which is sung, and its singing can be the most uplifting and inspiring of all the prayer services. This guide enriched my understanding of the Prayer and I am sure will do so for others. I can imagine a complementary volume to it which would include various musical renditions of 'Hallel' according to different nusachim. Who has not sung and davvaned 'Hallel' does not know what true communal joy is.
