The hair on a man's head is an important emblem of health, youth, and vitality. For a long time, physicians and surgeons searched for a cause and cure for alopecia. Alopecia, the term for generic hair loss, involves a diminution of visible hair. There are numerous types of alopecia. The most common form of surgically treatable alopecia is androgenic alopecia (AGA). Accordingly, loss of hair in men (MAGA, or male pattern androgenic alopecia) and especially women (FPHL, or female pattern hair loss) can have significant psychosocial effects. Burn injuries, whether caused by chemical (acid/ alkali), flame, scalds (including steam, hot water, and cooking oils) and rarely electrical injury can also cause alopecia chemotherapy and radiotherapy can also cause alopecia.
